Anna’s House Annual Garage Sale 2019

Saturday, September 28 – 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

147 Canora Street

It’s that time of the year again! Come to the corner of Canora and Westminster for some good finds, tasty eats, and friendly people!

The garage sale on the lawn will feature high quality second hand items, lovingly made canned goods, and local veggies. As usual we’ll be serving up our wood-fired oven pizza, famous hand cut french fries, and fresh coleslaw. Back by popular demand, our El Salvadorian friends will be offering papusas as well!

All of this is going towards a beloved cause. Anna’s House is an aid organization for orphaned and impoverished children in the Mekelle region of Ethiopia. Anna’s house is a part of the Mennonite Central Committee Global Family program and is connected to Tall Grass Bakery through Tabitha’s mother Anna who befriended her Ethiopian home care worker Berhan Mesret. Berhan has started the orphanage and school support system in Ethiopia in Anna’s name. A wonderful story of two amazing women doing good in the world.

Hope to see you there! Share the word and bring a friend!

Anna Hofer

My mother, Anna Hofer, who is also referred to as ‘Anna Basel,’ lived most of her life in a Hutterite colony. Hofer was her name by marriage but in Hutterite culture, surnames are rarely used and ‘Basel’ is a term of respect which literally translated means auntie. Anna was a strong, articulate, dynamic woman who loved life, people, good stories (which she told superbly), and good coffee. She married my father, Joseph Hofer, and together they had twelve children, ten of which were born in our own home.
